The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) unit at the Carbon Black Company shoulders a significant responsibility: identifying, mitigating, or eliminating risks and accidents to an acceptable level.
In pursuit of this goal, prioritizing the implementation of ISO 45001:2018 requirements is a fundamental aspect of the HSE unit’s plans. They meticulously execute their operational plans within two key processes: Safety of Activities and Operations and Minimizing Potential Harmful Factors. Aligned with the overarching strategy of enhancing safety, health, and environmental standards, optimizing energy consumption across the organization, and driven by the unwavering commitment of HSE unit employees, the company has achieved the ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety certification. This certification undergoes annual renewal and is subject to regular audits.
Some of the activities of the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) unit include:
- Conducting daily safety inspections of equipment and operational areas to identify hazards, non-compliance, and unsafe conditions. The unit prepares detailed reports highlighting discrepancies and suggests corrective and preventive actions to enhance workplace safety.
- Identifying hazards and conducting risk assessments and risk management processes to eliminate, reduce, and control potential risks.
- Assessing risks and initiating projects aimed at reducing the risk associated with high-risk activities.
- Developing a table for the allocation of personal protective equipment (PPE) based on the type of activity and potential hazards. The HSE unit ensures the timely procurement and distribution of PPE while monitoring their use by employees.
- Establishing safety performance indicators and conducting periodic assessments of these indicators to optimize the work environment, prevent potential accidents, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Disseminating HSE information and promoting awareness through the creation of safety posters, warning signs, and the distribution of informative brochures.
- Implementing a program encouraging employee participation in reporting unusual conditions and installing reporting boxes in all units to enhance workplace safety.
- Preparing and distributing Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and conducting regular training and retraining programs to ensure safety awareness.
- Utilizing software applications like PHAST, PHA PRO, and web-based safety, health, and environmental management to enhance the organization’s performance in the field of HSE.
- Overseeing ongoing projects in the engineering and executive operations sector.
- Holding HSE meetings with contractors to address HSE-related issues and provide actionable solutions.
- Monitoring and supervising the organization of HSE meetings at the contractor level to improve safety, health, and environmental standards for contractors.
- Reviewing safety improvements in the process area.
- Designing and implementing fire alarm and extinguishing systems.
- Ensuring the adequacy of fire extinguishing capsules suitable for potential fire types and conducting periodic checks using control checklists.
- Monitoring all permits related to hazardous activities such as cold work, hot work, confined space entry, drilling, and vehicle entry, by relevant guidelines.
- Investigating and preparing reports and root cause analyses of ongoing events, including incidents and near-misses within the organization, followed by planning for corrective and preventive actions.
- Inspecting equipment in complex development schemes by relevant standards.
- Forming specialized working groups to provide plans, proposals, and recommendations aimed at improving safety and achieving HSE organizational goals.
- Preparing periodic safety checklists to maintain safety standards at facilities, during activities, and with equipment and more.
